Position Summary

The Graphic Designer position on Bedrock’s marketing team is an excellent opportunity for a well-rounded individual to engage their skills in a fast-paced, highly impactful setting. Where else will you see your designs rolling down Woodward Avenue as the newly re-skinned QLINE, introducing visitors to Detroit in the form of tourism campaign advertisements, or helping investors understand the city through an award-winning augmented reality mobile application? The Graphic Designer is a passionate creative who enjoys working on multiple projects at once with short and long term deadlines for variety of teams across the company ranging from leasing and architecture to communications and finance, and everything in between.


The Team

The Marketing Team is responsible or showcasing our company, our properties, and the city of Detroit in the most exciting ways possible for a diverse array of audiences. The Marking Team uses a variety of mediums to tell Detroit’s evolving story including film, photography, graphic design, and web development. Close collaboration with internal and external partners provides our team with the many resources we need to bring new ideas to life. As we work to preserve the rich history of Detroit, we’re forward-thinking in our vision for its future. 


Position Responsibilities

  • Originate and develop creative designs for a wide variety of materials including websites, brochures, long-form documents, advertising campaigns (print and digital), large-scale physical installations such as wallscapes, HTML emails, and more in order to support marketing and communication initiatives
  • Use tools like Sketch and Invision to produce web/app design documents and user experience documents such as sitemaps, wireframes, user flows, and page comps for traffic to software developers
  • Use Adobe InDesign, Mac Keynote, and/or Microsoft PowerPoint to create effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics that will be presented to employees, senior executives and/or public groups
  • Propose novel creative ideas and design solutions in group meetings such as project brainstorms
  • Design and build HTML emails using programs such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.
  • Collaborate with various teams within the company including communications, architecture, leasing, and tenant relations to reach project goals
  • Comprehend and interpret business content such as concepts, documents, data, or financial information into graphic representation tailored to different audiences
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an accredited design or fine arts program
  • 3+ years of experience designing web graphics, emails and print collateral
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative suite, especially InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Operator-level proficiency in web design software such as Sketch and Invision or similar
  • Conceptual thinking and a thorough knowledge of multiple scales of design
  • Fundamentals of composition, color theory, typography, and photography
  • Knowledge of the print process, proper file set-up for print production and experience working directly with print vendors
  • The ability to think critically, ask questions, and execute on tasks
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Ability to simplify complex data into a strong visual narrative through diagrams, infographics, maps, and layout
  • Ability to develop thoughtful graphic/branding concepts into useable style guides and design guidelines
  • Possess a collaborative, flexible, and proactive approach to work
  • A well-organized design process with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to function within a well-organized, yet rigorous and demanding environment; excellent time management skills
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
  • Willingness to learn financial and development terms and principles in order to help others prepare financial/business analytics
  • Possess personal qualities of creativity, independence, and initiative
  • Maintain calm, utilize good judgment and reasoning ability within a variety of stressful situations
